The Field Experience of The Reform and Opening Up History (I)

Foreword

General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping pointed out that reform and opening up is the silver bullet that helps the Party and the Chinese people to keep up with the times, the only way to uphold and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics, and the key to determining the future of our country at this moment. It is also pivotal to realizing the second centennial goal and rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Reform and opening up is a glorious chapter in a century of Party history. The Communist Party of China has led the Chinese people to undergo earth-shaking reforms. As the vanguard and "experimental field" of the policy, Shenzhen was born in reform and opening up and has prospered in it. The history of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SSEZ) is a wonderful epitome of China’s reform and opening up. Shenzhen has witnessed major events and created significant precedents of reform and opening up. Seeking out historical sites to form themed routes of Party history education will help people better understand the history of reform and opening up.

(I) The Party’s Leadership is The Premises that SSEZ’s Future Growth Will Follow the Right Path

1、Lianhua Hill Park

Class theme: The key to determining the future of China

Basic facts: Located in the northernmost part of Shenzhen’s CBD, the Lianhua Hill Park covers an area of 194 hectares. Planning for the park began in 1992 and it officially opened to the public in 1997. The main peak of the hill is 106 meters above sea level, and a bronze statue of late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping stands at the center of the hilltop square. The on-site teaching will focus on Deng’s legacies during his two visits to Shenzhen as well as General Secretary Xi’s speeches on his visits to the city. It will help people to have a deeper understanding of the major events in the reform and opening up and the SSEZ history. By understanding the significance of reform and opening up, people will have a firm belief in their mission in the new era and readily shoulder their responsibility.

2、Qianhai Stone Park

Class theme: Ceaseless efforts in reform and opening up

Basic facts: Located at the seafront of Qianhai Free Trade Zone, the Qianhai Stone Park got its name from a huge yellow wax stone, engraved with the Chinese characters“前海.” On Dec. 7, 2012, General Secretary Xi stood before the landmark and sent a clear message calling for further reform and opening up. Then, on Oct. 24, 2018, Xi came to Qianhai again and declared to the world that China’s reform and opening up will never stop.

3、Qianhai International Convention Center

Class theme: From a special economic zone to a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics

Basic facts: Approved by the CPC Central Committee, the Guangdong Provincial CPC Committee and the Provincial Government arrange for a perennial exhibition at the venue to display the brilliant achievements of SSEZ over the past 40 years, especially since the 18th CPC National Congress. Titled “From SEZ to Pilot Demonstration Area,” the exhibition covers an area of 1,300 square meters with a visiting route of 360 meters. It was launched to mark SSEZ’s 40th anniversary.

4、Shenzhen CPC History Museum

Class theme: Inheriting the “red” gene and carrying on the intrepid spirit of reform and opening up

Basic facts: Arranging the exhibits chronologically, the museum systematically introduced Shenzhen’s history of unremitting struggles under the CPC leadership during the years of revolution, founding of the PRC, reform and opening up, and in the new era. The exhibition also displays the brilliant achievements the city has made. People will learn about the revolution traditions and the glorious past of the CPC at the museum.
