Time:2022-10-29 10:00:00

As we all know, China has unveiled guidelines on developing comprehensive transport network, with the aim of building a modern, high-quality and comprehensive national transport network.

However , we have to acknowledge the seriousness of the traffic congestion problem in our metropolitan cities, which is highlighted by traffic congestion during rush hours and has seriously affected the normal travel and living environment of urban residents. What is more worrying is that traffic accidents happen frequently, and the potential safety hazards cannot be ignored.

The host conducts the international forum.

On October 25, 2022, Professor Carlos F. Daganzo was invited to the Seventh International Forum of Shenzhen Reform and Opening Up Executive Leadership Academy. Daganzo delivered a speech online themed with transportation management in mega-cities. He discussed the root causes of traffic jam in mega-cities, and some potential remedies. First part of his lecture diagnosed the problem and described what current transportation technologies can do. This part used principles from physics to understand the root of the problem. Second part of his lecture discussed remedies that address these root causes. These remedies included both urban planning and transportation innovations.

Some 40 officials from the city's transportation management departments attended the forum. They raised many questions in English and interacted with the professor for more than an hour after the lecture.

Daganzo is a Chancellor's Professor at the Graduate School of the University of California, Berkeley. As a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, he was co-founder, chairperson of the board, and principal scientist of Via Analytics, a famous California corporation which is devoted to improving mobility through technology. He has also served as convenor of the oldest international symposium on transportation and traffic theory (the ISTTT) and as an associate editor of Transportation Research and Transportation Science.
