During the five-day course, trainees from various fields in Shenzhen not only brushed up Marxism theories, but also learned President Xi Jinping's important speeches on reform and opening-up policies.

On May 10, the second day of the course, trainees listened to an important speech delivered by Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC). Xi called on the youth league to unite and organize its members totaling 73.7 million between the ages of 14 and 28 by the end of last year. He also encouraged the league to better serve young people and dedicate their wisdom and efforts to national rejuvenation. After the study session, all trainees discussed the speech and vowed to firm up their ideas, shoulder their duties, endure hardships and be ready to work with strong motivation and creativity.

As the one of the most successful special economic zones in China, Shenzhen is the pioneering and pilot zone for the country's reform and opening up to the outside world. With arduous efforts and steady development during the past 40 odd years, the city has grown from a small fishing town into a famous metropolitan city. To engrave the great achievements of predecessors, First-generation builders of Shenzhen and persons who witnessed the initial stage of the city's development with their own eyes were invited to tell their personal experience in class and interacted with students.

To commemorate the birthday of Karl Marx which falls on May 5 every year, Shenzhen has set three days respectively before and after the great man's birthday as the city's Public Servants Reading Week. To echo with the reading week, all trainees in the class were also asked to read a book titled A Brief History of Reform and Opening Up and share their thoughts on the book, so as to get a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the country's history in the certain period.
