Teachers and students of Tsinghua Schwarzman College gather to explore the frontier of reform and opening up

From November 20, 2023 to November 24, a group of 30 scholars from 13 countries and regions including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, India, Germany, New Zealand, and Belarus gathered in Shenzhen for a deep dive. The event was hosted by Tsinghua University's Schwarzman College and held at Shenzhen Reform and Opening Up Executive Leadership Academy. It is aimed to provide a platform for global scholars to gain a deeper understanding of China's frontier city of reform and opening up----Shenzhen.

The scholars were immersed in Shenzhen's innovative practices through a series of special lectures, on-site visits, and a symposium with government officials.

The on-site visits offered the scholars a chance to witness Shenzhen's unique charm of innovation and development with their own eyes. At BYD , they got to know China's leading position in the field of new energy vehicles and its environmental protection and energy conservation efforts. At the BGI , they experienced the cutting-edge application of genetic technology in life sciences and its enormous potential. At the Shenzhen Angel Investment Guidance Fund, they learned how the government supports enterprises to grow and innovate. At Qianhai Free Trade Zone , they observed how the zone management authority facilitates trade and investment, drives financial innovation, and enhances government regulation.

The symposium session brought together scholars and government officials in relevant fields to discuss topics such as technological innovation, the business environment and the development prospects of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The aim was to share insights and experiences related to these topics and to promote greater international cooperation and exchange on the development experience of Shenzhen.

Since its establishment in November 2020, Shenzhen Reform and Opening up Executive Leadership Academy has been committed to showcasing China's reform and opening up experience to the outside world. Through its courses, textbooks, and case studies on Shenzhen's experience, the academy aims to provide a platform for global scholars to gain a deeper understanding of China's reform and opening up achievements in cities like Shenzhen, as well as the vitality and potential of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This will help promote greater international cooperation and exchange on China's reform and opening up experience.
